Arsene Wenger Puts Alexis Sanchez Story To Bed: We’ve Chosen Sporting Goals Over Financial Ones

Arsene Wenger accepts Alexis Sanchez can walk for free in January…

Arsene Wenger has sought to put the Alexis Sanchez story to bed after stating that the club accepts the financial loss we’ll face if the Chilean walks on a free next summer.

Wenger has been reluctant to admit that Alexis is certainly leaving the club, whenever that may be, indicating that he still harbours hope of the 28-year-old extending his deal.

Alexis is currently out with an abdominal injury and is yet to feature this season, but Wenger has assured fans that he’ll remain an Arsenal player beyond September.

As far as fans are concerned, we’re unaware of any formal offers for Alexis despite the intense speculation.

“I am a football manager, I want Sanchez to stay, and that’s it,” Wenger told the press ahead of our trip to Stoke.

“After that, all the financial implications, for me, is less important. But at the end of the day, you have to afford it as well, you must afford it.

“But we have to make a choice between efficiency on the field and financial interest and most of the time if you can find a good compromise, it’s better. But in this case, I think I prioritise the fact that he will be useful on the sporting side.”

We have long called on the club to put football decisions at the forefront of their minds, and they seemed to have accepted that with the Alexis case.

However, the fact that we have so many players nearing the end of their contract despite entering their prime wreaks of incompetence from within the club.

Check out Wenger’s full pre-match press conference in the video above.
