Arsene Wenger still wants full focus on the Premier League…
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says it’s still his priority to qualify for the Champions League through the Premier League ahead of our second-leg clash against Ostersunds FK.
Leading 3-0 from the first-leg, many have peddled the notion that our best chance of making it back into Europe’s top competition is through the Europa League.
However, Wenger has often distanced himself from that theory and has made it clear that he wants to drag us back into the top four.
The Frenchman has only failed to finish inside those positions once in his Gunners career, and it seems he’s determined to correct that this campaign.
“It [the Europa League] is one of the priorities we have but there’s a long way to go,” Wenger told the press ahead of the Ostersunds clash.
“We have to get through tomorrow and then see who we get if we get through. We will focus to do well but ideally, we want to come back to the Champions League through the Premier League.”
Wenger’s reluctance to accept the value of the Europa League is really odd and potentially damaging.
He’s always prided himself on doing what’s best for the club and regardless of his lack of confidence in his ability to win a European trophy, we need it to save our season.
