Arsene Wenger meets the media ahead of the new season…

Arsene Wenger refused to set a definitive target for the team ahead of our Premier League opener against Leicester City as we look to bounce back from a poor league campaign last term.

Our season took its usual course last campaign, with a promising title challenge falling apart at the turn of the year and was further compounded by a damaging Champions League exit.

While we usually recover from a terrible run of form to rescue a Champions League, we were unable to do that this time around and ended up finishing a point outside the top four.

Wenger went on to extend his contract despite the waves dissent, with the club forcefully stating that he’s the right man to deliver the ultimate objective – to win the Premier League.

However, on the eve of our opening league game against the former Premier League champions, Wenger shied away from make such bold statements.

“A target is very difficult to set,” Wenger told Sky Sports’, Bryan Swanson.

“You can interview seven to eight Premier League managers who will tell you they want to win the league and they are very ambitious and rightly so.

“So let’s just focus on us, on our quality, and get into the games with the desire to win every game.”

Wenger has been doing these press conferences a long time and knows exactly how to answer questions without creating soundbites.

In putting himself among the “seven to eight” managers who intend to win the Premier League, Wenger cryptically revealed his ambitions for the season.

You have to wonder though: why can’t he just say it?
