Arsene Wenger has revealed that he turned down the Real Madrid job twice during his time at Arsenal, as well as the England national team job as he continues to reflect on his Gunners career.

Wenger is unemployed for the first time in 23 years and he’s currently enjoying a period of reflection on his Gunners tenure and while speaking to beIN SPORTS, he revealed the jobs he’s been offered.

The Frenchman was asked about the job he’s turned down in the past and Wenger was more willing to give up the juicy details now that he’s unattached.

Wenger felt that the calls came at the wrong time, with the club going through a seismic change with the stadium move.

“Real Madrid, I think I turned them down two or three times. They are one of the teams I loved as a kid but I felt it was a very sensitive period for Arsenal,” Wenger told beIN SPORTS.

When we built the stadium, the banks asked me to commit for five years. The first time, it was inside the five years and I thought ‘I cannot do that’, it would be betraying my club.”

When asked about his reasoning for turning down the FA, Wenger says he firmly believes a national team should be managed by coaches for their country.

“The daily involvement was important for me and I felt that it should be an English guy that takes the England national team, Wenger concluded.
