Arsene Wenger Reveals The Type Of Squad He’ll Name For The Europa League

Arsene Wenger wants to prevail in the Europa League…

Arsene Wenger has revealed that he’ll field a ‘first team’ squad for the midweek game in the Europa League against FC Koln days before our trip to Chelsea.

While he’s publicly respected the competition, speculation has been rife that the Europa League isn’t on Wenger’s radar this season and that his main focus is the Premier League.

The boss has referred to mimicking Chelsea and Leicester City in their title-winning campaigns, though he failed to point out that both clubs had no European football to juggle with.

Wenger has previously rested players in Champions League group stage games so rotation is inevitable, but it remains to be seen how many of the players who defeated Bournemouth will be involved on Thursday night.

“We want to do well in the Europa League,” Wenger told Sky Sports.

“We’ll put a team out who has a good chance to win the game, we have a reasonable squad.

“Overall, players who didn’t play today, some of them will play. We’ll put – of course – the first-team out.”

In Wenger’s vocabulary, ‘first-team’ is rather different to a ‘first XI’, and it seems the team will be mixed with those who were on the bench against Bournemouth coupled with a few youngsters.

Arsenal fans around the world will certainly be hoping that we see another glimpse of starlet Reiss Nelson.
