Arsene Wenger interested in Riyad Mahrez…
Arsene Wenger has hinted that we may place a bid for wantaway Leicester City star Riyad Mahrez who was heavily linked with us last summer.
Mahrez decided to sign a new deal and commit to Leicester, though he recently released a statement claiming that he wishes to leave and hopes his club won’t stand in his way.
After N’Golo Kante departed the Kinpower Stadium last summer, many feared an exodus out of Leicester, yet that wasn’t the case with Jamie Vardy and Mahrez signing new contracts.
However, it looks like the Algerian international may be on his way, and Wenger didn’t rule out making an offer.
“We’ve not made a bid a for him but, personally, I like the player yes,” Wenger told beinSPORTS.
“I think he had a huge impact at Leicester when they won the championship, like everybody else.
“Have we made a bid for him? No. Not yet. Not yet means it could happen, it could not happen,” Wenger added.
Wenger very rarely speaks so openly about a player who isn’t attached to Arsenal Football Club, something which usually results in said player joining us.
While the boss was rather cryptic about making an offer, it seems inevitable that he will.
Having said that, in this new-found 3-4-3 system, I’m not sure where Mahrez fits in should we hang on to Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez this summer.
