Mesut Ozil ruled out of the midweek clash against Huddersfield…

Arsene Wenger has ruled Mesut Ozil out of the clash in midweek at home to Huddersfield after the German missed the trip to Burnley with a bout of illness.

Fresh from his virtuoso display against Spurs in the north London derby, Ozil was given the week off as the fringe side travelled to Germany for the Europa League game against FC Koln.

Despite training this week, and travelling with the team to Burnley, Ozil’s name was absent from the teamsheet and Wenger revealed that he was a late omission with illness – as diagnosed by the team doctor.

With another Premier League fixture days away, Wenger doesn’t expect the 29-year-old to recover quick enough to take to the field at the Emirates Stadium.

“I haven’t seven seen him,” Wenger told reporters after our dramatic win at Turf Moor.

“The doctor came to see me and said he had to travel back home, he was in the hotel with us.”

Regarding Ozil’s availability for the visit of Premier League newcomers Huddersfield: “Certainly, he will be short for Wednesday.”

Ozil is in a rich vein of form and one hopes this little break doesn’t curtail his upward trajectory, though his absence shouldn’t be felt in this particular clash.

While Huddersfield have performed above expectations, they’re stronger at home than they are on their travels and I’m fully expecting us to snatch all three points.
