Arsene Wenger has revealed that he expects our Spanish contingent to stay at Arsenal this season, including Lucas Perez and Hector Bellerin.

Bellerin has been heavily linked with a move away to Barcelona, with reports suggesting that he’ll hand in a transfer request when Wenger returns from the tour of China.

The 21-year-old is currently on extended leave due to his international exertions with the Spanish U21 side, and a move seems unlikely given that he recently signed a six-year contract.

Wenger’s comments regarding Lucas may be slightly surprising given that the Spaniard had his squad number taken by new signing Alexandre Lacazette, which compounds his situation.

The former Deportivo man rarely made the squad towards the backend of last season, with an exit seemingly possible, regardless of what Wenger says.

After landing in Beijing ahead of our clash against Chelsea, Wenger hosted a question in which his was asked a double-barrelled question by a Spanish reporter: whether the Spanish contingent would stay, and if failure to win the league next season could see him leave Arsenal?

Wenger responded in classic fashion: “The answer for the first question is yes, and the answer for the second question is no.”
