Arsene Wenger wishes Wojciech Szczesny well…
Arsene Wenger has wished Wojciech Szczesny well after the Polish international completed a move to Juventus after spending two seasons on loan in Serie A.
Wenger has always stated that the competition for places in the goalkeeping department was too excessive, and it always seemed likely that one would depart.
Szczesny rebuilt his reputation at Roma and kept the most clean sheets in Serie A last season, performances which garnered the attention of the champions.
Juventus have been searching for a long-term replacement for Gigi Buffon and Wenger feels they’ve found their man.
“We wish him well,” Wenger told Arsenal Player.
“I think he is an Arsenal boy, an Arsenal man but we have so many top-class goalkeepers that we gave him a chance to remain in Italy.
“I think that it’s very good for his future because he will certainly take over from Buffon and I believe as well that he will always be thankful to Arsenal because Arsenal was a big step in his career.”
Many fans felt that we should’ve given the chance to the 28-year-old to replace Cech as our long-term goalkeeper, but Wenger has faith in Emi Martinez.
Martinez is at the point Szczesny was at in his Arsenal career when he blew it with many antics, both on and off the field, and he deserves a chance.
