Mikel Arteta pays tribute to Arsene Wenger…
Gunners boss Mikel Arteta hailed Arsene Wenger as ‘Mr Arsenal’ and stated that everybody at the club stands on his shoulders and benefits from his work, he told Sky Sports.
Speaking ahead of the visit of Manchester City in a top-of-the-table clash, Arteta says he sees the embodiment of the club when he sees the Frenchman.
Wenger was recently at the Emirates Stadium to visit his statue unveiled in August, and the former Gunners boss has felt more comfortable being around the club since his departure.
He took a distance following his exit in 2018 and while the whole debacle was portrayed as a decision he took, it didn’t take a genius to understand that he was removed with a year remaining on his contract.
The club underwent wholesale changes between 2018-2021, especially in the hierarchy as we looked for a stable and reliable structure.
Now, with former Invincible Edu in charge of the day-to-day running of the club from a footballing perspective, working in tandem with Arteta and director Richard Garlick, things look settled.
“Mr Arsenal? Yes,” Arteta said when asked to describe Wenger.
“He transformed the club and modernised it in a way nobody else has done.

“Who we are right now, the fact that I’m here, the way we are perceived externally, he has to take a lot of credit for that.
“When I see him I see Arsenal.”
Arteta has certainly brought the club back to where it belongs domestically and starting a campaign genuinely believing that we can challenge for the Premier League title.
It’s the first time we’ve felt like that in the Emirates era and it’s also coincided with the Kroenke’s gaining 100% control and subsequently loosening the purse strings.
If Arteta can end our 20-year drought for a league title on the 20th anniversary of our ‘Invincibles’ campaign, he’ll certainly go a long way to becoming a legendary manager.
