Arteta compares his task to others…

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta reminded the press that managers are hired for different reasons after being asked to comment on similarities he sees between his start and Ruben Amorim’s task at Manchester United.

Ahead of the FA Cup tie against the Red Devils, onlookers have sought to compare the two projects with Amorim aiming to take his side from mid-table to competing for the Premier League.

Despite his age, the Portuguese coach is very experienced and has already won titles at a good level with Sporting Lisbon while also managing in the major European competitions.

The two coaches have already faced off this season as Arteta led his side to a comfortable 2-0 win against Man United last month – handing Amorim his first defeat.

Man United are coming off the back of a hard-fought draw at Anfield, though that result was proceeded by four consecutive defeats in the league.

“Every manager when he is appointed is for a reason, but the reasons can be different,” Arteta said when asked to compare his reign to Amorim’s task (via Arsenal Media).

“Sometimes it’s just to improve a football team and get more performance out of certain players, sometimes it’s to transform to the football club.

“That’s a totally different dimension of a job, and if I have to relate to mine at that time, it was more towards that than the previous one I mentioned.”

We live in a tangible era fuelled by media that can no longer be distinguished from your favourite YouTube fan channel providing click-bait content.

It means that while Arteta’s tenure can only be accurately analysed with context and acknowledging the nuances, nobody cares about that. He will only be deemed a success if he delivers a Premier League title or the Champions League.
