Bayern Munich star Mats Hummels has heaped praise on under-pressure Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger by labelling him as one of the greatest coaches in generations.

Hummels, 28, stated that throughout his life he’s only known Arsenal under Wenger’s tutelage and the number of great teams he churned out.

The former Borussia Dortmund skipper referenced the Invincible season in 2003/04, in which his compatriot Jens Lehmann produced heroics in goal.

However, following back-to-back defeats against Chelsea and Watford in recent weeks, fans feel yet another title race has ended prematurely.

With Wenger’s contract this summer, it could present the perfect opportunity to make the change many feel is overdue.

Nonetheless, Hummels feels the Frenchman remains a staple in football.

“For me, he is one of the greatest coaches we have experienced,” Hummels told BT Sport.

“He was always one of the best coaches of the best teams in the world. There’s the legendary season with Lehmann when they didn’t lose a game.

“If you’re my age, he’s something that belongs to soccer.”
