Thomas Frank hails match-winning moment from Saka…

Brentford boss Thomas Frank rued his side’s missed chances that allowed Bukayo Saka the opportunity to produce a magnificent assist for Kai Havertz that decided the game, the Danish boss told TNT Sports.

It was a cagey game at the Gtech Stadium as Mikel Arteta’s men struggled to break down a stubborn Brentford side that deployed a deep block.

The home side had chances of their own which came due to errors at the back, mainly from a fragile Aaron Ramsdale who gave the ball to Yoan Wissa in the six-yard box.

Giving the ball in that area usually results in a goal, but you can never be sure when Declan Rice is around and the industrious midfielder produced a stunning goal-line clearance.

Alex Zinchenko also produced a block just in front of the line after giving the ball away in the left-back area.

“That’s the tough one in this beautiful game that we lose a game where get so many things right. It should have been a draw,” Frank was quoted as saying after the game.

“We managed to keep them very quiet throughout the game, then Saka has one fantastic moment, a fantastic cross that decides the game. Either team could have won, it could easily have been us.”

It really is hard not to think how straightforward this game could’ve been if David Raya was between the sticks. The Spaniard is not just a goalkeeper, he starts our attacks and makes sure we enter the middle and final third in the right way.

That build up provides our forward line the opportunity to attack more open spaces, something we were missing on Saturday due to Ramsdale’s habit of going long.

To those that may have been confused, this is why Arteta decided to upgrade in that position last summer.
