Bukayo Saka says scoring for Arsenal was always the dream…
Arsenal star Bukayo Saka stated that scoring goals for the club has been a childhood dream for him and teammate Emile Smith Rowe, with the two now our top goal scorers, he told Arsenal Player.
Saka scored his eighth league goal of the season and now sits one behind Smith Rowe in our leading scorer’s chart as the Hale End graduates lead our charge towards Champions League football.
Being efficient in the final third is something manager Mikel Arteta challenged the duo to improve ahead of the new campaign and boy have they delivered.
They could end the campaign with 20 goal contributions each, highlighting their devastating quality in the opposition’s box.
The likes of Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Martinelli have also contributed as the team aims to mask the lack of a recognised goalscorer in the squad.
For Saka, there may be a friendly rivalry with Smith Rowe in terms of their goal tally, but the 20-year-old insisted that the two England internationals are just living their dream.
“I do set myself targets but at the same time, I just want to win each game,” Saka said regarding his healthy goal tally this term.
“If I don’t score but we win, it’s better for the team. That’s the best way to think about it and at the end of the season, we’ll achieve big things like this.”
Regarding a rivalry between the two starlets to become our top scorer, Saka said: “Nah, we just want to see each other do well.
“I’m sure he’s happy for me, and I’m always happy for him when he scores. There’s a bit of a rivalry but it’s nothing, we all just want to score for Arsenal because it’s been our dream since we were kids.”
And they’re doing exactly that. In football, you may not be able to win anything with kids, but you can certainly qualify for the Champions League with them.
