Bukayo Saka: The Top Players Play Every Three Days, I’m Trying To Be At That Level

Bukayo Saka comfortable with his load…

Arsenal star Bukayo Saka has allayed fears about a potential burnout and stated that he should be ready to compete every three days, just as the world’s best players are, The Evening Standard reports.

Saka suffered a hamstring injury earlier this month which forced him out of England’s latest squad and led to further dialogue about the 22-year-old’s load.

Saka broke a club record for consecutive Premier League appearances which was held by Paul Merson – who left the club four years before the winger was born.

While many are concerned about the number of minutes Saka has accumulated, Mikel Arteta has never subscribed to that school of thought and continues to expect Saka to meet the highest of demands.

The England international has now echoed his manager’s thoughts and believes the levels are clear if he wants to be among the world’s best.

“I’m really focused on the next coming games and what I can do for the team,” Saka was quoted as saying.

“My focus is not really there [on talk of burning out]. I always want to be on the pitch, to give my best, and if I’m injured and I have to be forced to be out, then of course I will sit out.

“But as long I’m there and I’m ready to play, I am always going to give my best and tell them that I want to play.”

“When you look at the top players, they are there every three days and winning games for their team. So I’m trying to be at that level, and obviously to get there I need to push myself,” the Hale End graduate added.

Saka has already reached double figures in terms of goal contributions this season, though he’s yet to reach the explosive levels he operated at for much of the campaign.

However, given his intelligence, Saka will be aware that he ran out of steam towards the end of the campaign last term and one imagines that he’s simply pacing himself.
