Arsenal star Alex Iwobi believes that now is not the time to shift the focus to one competition following our 3-0 win at Ostersund which should see us through to the last-16 of the Europa League.

That result came off the back of yet another derby defeat away from home against Spurs which leaves us in a precarious position in terms of our top four race.

Given the competition at the top-end of the table, we’re effectively chasing down two teams in our race to enter those sacred spots which makes the task even more difficult.

This season, however, we have a second potential route into the Champions League which could materialise if we go all the way in the Europa League.

For Iwobi, though, that’s not a thought running through his psyche and the playmaker wants to succeed on both fronts.

“We have to do our best in both competitions,” the 21-year-old told ITV Sport.

“That’s what we are trying to do: get top four and also win this competition. That’s the aim.

Iwobi has been enjoying an extended period back in the first XI fold since the departure of Alexis Sanchez, aided by Wenger’s reluctance to pair Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang together.

Nevertheless, the Nigerian international cannot expect to keep his place unless he ups his efficiency in the final third, something the boss has repeatedly warned him about.

With the academy graduate now in his third season as a bonafide first-team player, it’s time he kicked on.
