Arsenal full-back Cedric Soares vowed to repay the faith shown in him by the club after scoring on his long-awaited debut in our 4-0 thrashing of Norwich City, he told Arsenal Player.
Cedric joined the club from Southampton on an initial loan deal in January but was unable to make an appearance due to a knee injury.
Then, after returning to full training, the pandemic halted football across the globe which further frustrated the European Championship winner.
After the teams resumed training ahead of the restart, a clash with teammate Bukayo Saka left him with a broken nose and caused him to miss our first four matches of the restart.
Now, after returning to full training and having his loan deal turned into a permanent, four-year contract, Soares is aiming to prove that the faith shown in him is worth it.
“Yes, it felt great to be fair. To be able to first of all play for Arsenal in Emirates Stadium and add that start with a goal, of course, I feel very, very happy,” Cedric said after the victory.
“But I need to thank all my colleagues, they helped me during this time. You saw the reaction, they were happy as well. They were supporting me and I’m very, very thankful for that.”
When asked about the string of bad luck which he’s experienced in recent months, the Portugues international said:
“Yes, it was a difficult time. Arsenal kept confidence in me as well and I want to give it all back to the club and to the fans as well.
“What I can guarantee is that I will give my 100 per cent in every game.”
Full-backs are crucial to the way Arteta wants to play and right-back has been a problem position for us over the past 12 months.
With Hector Bellerin struggling to regain the form he showed before his horrific knee injury, Cedric could become a vital player for us.
