Ex-Arsenal skipper Fabregas hails Odegaard…

Former Arsenal skipper Cesc Fabregas named Martin Odegaard as the one player in world football who reminds him of himself, the Spaniard told BBC Sport.

Odegaard, much like his predecessor, is the creative fulcrum of this Arsenal team aiming to end decades of anguish for the Gunners faithful and lift the Premier League title

The 25-year-old was also handed the armband in 2023 and has taken that responsibility on impeccably, leading the club to back-to-back title charges as we close the gap on Manchester City.

The Norwegian captain has previously admitted that Fabregas influenced him growing up, namechecking the Catalan when he joined us on that initial loan spell.

“It’s always been a dream to play in the Premier League,” Odegaard told Arsenal Media in 2021.

“I always liked the way Arsenal played and everything about the club. So it’s a dream come true in many ways. “Fabregas, for me, was one of my idols when I grew up. So especially him.”

Fabregas, who is currently in Germany covering Euro 2024, believes Odegaard resembles his playing style and personality – as he demands himself to be one of the team’s leaders.

“I really like Odegaard, the position and the character and the profile of player he is today for Arsenal reminds me a little bit of myself in my time,” The Como boss said when asked to name a current player he sees himself in.

“I genuinely think he reminds me of myself, I’ve got to know him, and he’s a great guy, a great professional, a great leader. It reminds me of when I was a young captain, he brings this energy that I see when they’re losing, and he brings the atmosphere up, and it reminds me of myself.”

While Cesc sought new pastures as he became frustrated with not being able to win the biggest honours with Arsenal, Odegaard will surpass him in the eyes of fans worldwide if he finally brings the title back to north London.
