Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno has made it clear that he isn’t too bothered by the lack of starts since his move in the summer and has been assured that his time will come, Sky Sports reports.

Leno was signed from Bayer Leverkusen for a reported fee of £19.3million, a huge investment for a goalkeeper – especially for a club with our resources.

It immediately gave the impression that he was joining to take the No.1 slot, even if Petr Cech changed his shirt number for the first time in three years to now don the No.1 jersey.

Cech was awful last season and it signified the changing of that guard, yet he’s returned this term to his old self and has rightly kept his position.

Leno was handed his first start of the season against FC Vorskla and told reporters after the game that he will wait in the wings until he’s given the nod.

“Of course, because I came to the club to play every game,” the 26-year-old said when asked if he was feeling slightly frustrated.

“But I think to move to a bigger club, another country, it needs maybe a little bit of time. It is a little bit frustrating but I keep calm and work very hard to improve.

“I think my performances in training are good. I train very hard and maybe it needs a little bit of time. I keep calm. My chance will come.”

The Leno/Cech situation seems to be similar to that of Woijech Szczesny and Gigi Buffon last season, with a long-term option waiting for a legendary goalkeeper to leave the club before being handed the reins.

Cech is out of contract next summer and it looks like he will leave on a free.
