Aaron Ramsdale is linked with a move away…
Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has been linked with a move to London rivals Chelsea after being demoted to the club’s second-choice goalkeeper, talkSPORT reports.
Ramsdale has only started two games since September, both of which came in the Carabao Cup, with Mikel Arteta turning to summer signing David Raya.
The Spaniard has kept four clean sheets in the Premier League since his compatriot drafted him in and while there have been a few shaky moments in possession, he’s definitely more comfortable with the ball at his feet.
While Raya’s arrival was initially announced as a loan, it’s expected that the move will be made a permanent at the end of the season.
Ramsdale only recently extended his contract until 2027 as the club sought to reward him for his performances since joining us just over two years ago.
Chelsea are certainly in need of an option in goal with the position currently occupied by Brighton’s former third-choice goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.
The report claims that the Blues feel it will be difficult to prize Ramsdale in January and are eyeing a summer move, but that may not necessarily be true.
All eyes will likely be on the squad Gareth Southgate announces later this month in the penultimate England gathering before the Euro 2024 squad is named.
Ramsdale was already relegated to third choice by Southgate in last month’s squad with Crystal Palace’s Sam Johnstone getting the nod to start in the friendly against Australia.
If that situation continues – or worsens – the 25-year-old might begin to get restless and force a move.
