Nacho Monreal compares Granit Xhaka to Ronaldo…

Arsenal duo Nacho Monreal and Granit Xhaka were the latest players to take to the booth to record their version of ‘Unclassic Commentary’ and the Spaniard made an interesting comparison during the session.

The two stars were asked to commentate over our 4-1 win at Hull City in October, a game in which Xhaka scored his first Arsenal goal in spectacular fashion.

We have since become accustomed to the Swiss star’s wand of a left foot, yet Monreal wanted to focus on another flashpoint.

As the clip comes up of a Xhaka making his introduction from the bench, Monreal jokes: “Cristiano Ronaldo, coming on.”

It’s clear that our players pay attention to the trends on social media given that a number of fans have noticed the resemblance between Xhaka and Ronaldo.

Xhaka and Monreal produced stunning displays against Manchester United at the weekend, which made the release of the video all the more potent in terms of the timing.

Switching to a 3-4-3 system has given a new lease of life to a number of new players, not least the aforementioned duo.

Monreal feels at home in the left-centre back role, while Xhaka is much more of a threat when his raking passes can find the wing-backs as they hug the touchline.
