Danny Murphy on the mood among Arsenal fans…

BBC pundit Danny Murphy gets the sense that Arsenal fans are on the verge of another meltdown and all is not forgiven in the terraces after a torrid campaign last term.

Fractions between fans and the relationship between the club and its supporters became volatile on a number of occasions, peaking at Selhurst Park in March.

For the first time in over two decades, calls for Arsene Wenger to walk were vociferous and it became really sour towards the end.

However, Wenger defied those critics and signed a new two-year deal after winning a record 13th FA Cup for the club, but Murphy gets the sense that the fans are not content.

“I’m not sure Arsenal fans have been turned enough by that FA Cup win last season,” Murphy said on Sky Sports’ debate show.

“I don’t think they’ve turned completely and are saying: ‘We forgive you, we forgive you!’.”

“They’re waiting, and now they’ve lost at Stoke, if they go to Liverpool and get turned over, does it all start again [the pressure] at the next home game?”

I doubt we’d see a return to the days of banners at the ground given that Wenger has extended for two more years instead of one, but that’s not the main worry for most fans.

Distraction from the stands cannot be blamed if we fall behind the wayside early on in this title race.

Check out Danny Murphy’s take on how Arsenal are shaping up ahead of a trip to Liverpool this weekend.
