Danny Welbeck got on the scoresheet against FC Vorskla and says Emery has some choices to make…
Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck warned head coach Unai Emery that he intends to give him a selection headache after him and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang found the net against FC Vorskla, he told Arsenal Player.
Kicking off our Europa League campaign hoping to go one step further than last season, we put the Ukrainian side to the sword and only a lacklustre end to the game made the scoreline more respectable.
Mesut Ozil grabbed the other goal in what was a brutal attacking display in front of a nearly half-filled Emirates Stadium – something for the big wigs to consider.
Emery has mainly operated with a 4-3-3 or a 4-2-3-1 system this season and has made it clear he wants versatile players in the squad, though our attacking options are rather healthy.
For Welbeck, the key is giving the Spaniard a headache each matchday.
“It’s great,” the 27-year-old said when asked about the comradery between the forward line.
“We’ve got great competition in that forward line and that’s healthy for the squad, it gives the manager a good headache.
“And that’s all the players want – to get on the pitch, give it their best and give the manager a headache.”
We may lack natural width in the squad which further depleted following the loan exit of Reiss Nelson, but Emery has tweaked the team to be more dangerous from narrow areas.
Our wide players generally find space between the opposition’s centre-backs and full-backs, leaving the width for our full-backs to exploit.
It’s working, for now!
