Darren Bent reveals he was going to Highbury as a player…

Former Spurs striker Darren Brent revealed that he’s been a season ticket holder at Arsenal since we were at Highbury and used to attend matches while playing in the Premier League, he told the FilthyFellas podcast.

Brent, who’s part of the ‘Premier League 100 club’, stated that while he had to keep his Arsenal allegiances quiet during the prime years of his career, he used to attend games at Highbury.

The 39-year-old revealed that he was able to attend games at Highbury during his Charlton days, but had to keep a low profile once he became an established Premier League star.

Bent, now a broadcaster on radio and TV, embraces his inner Gooner and attends games again as he cheers the boys on in their attempts at ending our Premier League drought.

“I’ve always been Arsenal,” Brent said when asked about who he supports.

“When you play the game you forget about it. As a kid, my dad used to take me to Chelsea quite a lot because he’s Chelsea, I used to go to Arsenal quite a lot.

“When you start playing professional football you almost forget about who you support – allegiances go out of the window.

“So when you’re playing against Arsenal, you’re probably trying a little bit more because you’re thinking; ‘boy I’d love to be wearing that kit.’

“But the moment I retired, that’s when the fan came back out and now I can’t help it.”

One glance at Bent’s record against us will show that he certainly tried to send a message every time he came up against his boyhood club, netting eight times in 13 games (via Transfermarkt).

Bent was corrected by a member of the panel about some of his comments above, revealing that he did attend games as an Arsenal fan during his professional career.

“I’m a season ticket holder and I go down there now – I almost had to be quite public about it.

“I used to, yeah,” Bent admitted when asked about his Highbury season ticket.

“I used to go when I was at Charlton – midweek when they were in the Champions League.”
