Footballers tend to make odd statements when discussing their sport and David Alaba may well have topped the bill in that regard.

Asked to name his toughest opponent while at a club, Alaba replied: “A lot of them like Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi….Theo Walcott.”

While Walcott possesses sheer pace, it’s tough to decipher how he caused Alaba considerable trouble given that Bayern Munich have beaten us quite comfortably every time we’ve faced them.

Alongside Steven Gerrard’s claim that Joe Cole was better than Lionel Messi, Alaba’s quotes are among the most comical ones uttered by professional footballers.
