Arsenal new boy David Luiz has expressed his desire to help the Gunners return to their glory days after his impressive showing against Burnley on his debut, BT Sport reports.

Luiz was thrown into the starting XI by Unai Emery after sitting out of the Premier League opener at Newcastle United last week, taking the place of the impressive Calum Chambers.

While the Englishman’s demotion was rather harsh, Luiz’s height and physical was definitely required against a robust Burnley side.

Goals from our dynamic duo Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang won us the game as we maintained our 100% in a Premier League season after two games for the first time in a decade.

“It feels very good,” Luiz said when asked to sum up his debut.

“I’m so happy to be here and to try to do my job and also to enjoy it with these kinds of quality players.

“I think this team has a lot to do and can improve a lot and we can fight for all the competitions, so we’re going to work step by step, working hard.”

When asked about Luiz’s long-term goals at the club, the Brazilian international replied: “It’s a pleasure to be here because everybody is humble, everybody wants to learn and everybody wants to improve to help this club shine again.”

Any Arsenal fan who’s being a tad bit honest would state that Luiz cannot be considered a long-term option at the club if we’re to fix our defensive issues.

However, following the departure of Laurent Koscielny and the delayed arrival of starlet William Saliba, having a stopgap of Luiz’s quality was a sensible move.

Hopefully, the 32-year-old can guide us to the much-coveted top four holy grail.
