Ornstein predicts “busy” summer…

Arsenal are expected to have a “busy” summer transfer window with a new centre-forward the priority position, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.

While the full focus over the next two months is on Arteta’s men competing for domestic and European supremacy, the recruitment plans for the summer are well underway.

Despite our change of fortune in front of goal, Ornstein reveals that Arteta is eyeing a new central striker with the likes of Benjamin Sesko and Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres being scouted.

It’s also reported that signing a genuine winger may be revisited this summer as Arteta looks to add cover for Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka.

The Spaniard’s desire to add a player of that profile isn’t a secret with the club failing in moves to land the likes of Raphinha, Mykhailo Mudryk and Pedro Neto.

The Athletic states that while interest in the latter remains, the club are unlikely to match Wolves’ hefty asking price – especially due to Neto’s poor injury record.

Ornstein also reveals that the middle of the park is an area where we could see some activity with only one name listed as a serious target – Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi. A move for a defender is said to depend on whether Arteta views the likes of Takehiro Tomiaysu and Oleksandr Zinchenko as reliable options due to their poor injury records.

In terms of where we’re at ahead of the summer window, Edu revealed last week that moves are already being made.

“Well, I understand what the fans are asking for but we already have our targets,” the former Invincible told TNT Sports.

“We have planned a lot ahead and I will be worried if we don’t score a lot of goals and if we’re not creating chances, which is the opposite because we create a lot and score a lot of goals.
“The plan is to try to get better every year and I think we are in a good moment. Let’s see if we can keep improving.”
