David Ornstein chuckles at Arteta’s latest update…

While Mikel Arteta refused to give any definitive information regarding the prognosis of Martin Odegaard’s ankle injury, it’s now being reported that the Norwegian’s ankle is still too swollen to examine fully, The Athletic’s David Ornstein reports.

Odegaard sustained a nasty-looking ankle injury during Norway’s UEFA Nations League clash against Austria earlier this month.

The skipper rolled his ankle while attempting to ride a challenge and was visibly in excruciating pain with audible screams captured by the pitch-side microphones.

Norway’s team doctor provided a positive initial update, claiming that there doesn’t appear to be a break in the ankle judging by tests conducted by the national side.

However, Odegaard was sent to London for further scans and was seen boarding a private plane while walking on crutches which started to panic fans.

Despite Arteta refusing to rule Odegaard out of the north London derby last weekend, David Ornstein reports that according to his latest information, the 25-year-old’s ankle can still not be fully examined due to the swelling.

“He was never going to make it (the North London derby) was what Arteta said and it looks like a significant injury but look we don’t know,” the former BBC reporter said on The Athletic FC Podcast.

“The last I heard they didn’t have full clarity from the scans still because of the extent of the swelling – but the extent of the swelling concerns you if you’re an Arsenal fan.

“Because maybe it could be quite tough but international breaks are coming up,” he added.

As an Arsenal fan, one should be accustomed to never getting any information regarding injuries from Mikel Arteta. It wouldn’t even be unfair to say that he flat-out lies about injury news.

Remember when Takehiro Tomiyasu suffered ‘a little accident’ just before we flew out to Los Angeles for our pre-season tour and would be out for “a few weeks”? It’s been over two months now with no sign of a return date or a news of a setback.
