David Ornstein highlights Arsenal’s plans…

Arsenal are set for a crucial summer window with many areas of the squad to upgrade upon as we look to take the next step and deliver major trophies.

The club announced healthy financial accounts in February – which didn’t include the ‘pure profit’ sales of Emile Smith Rowe and Eddie Nketiah as well as Aaron Ramsdale’s move to Southampton.

It means those player trading figures, in addition to the record revenues we reported, give Mikel Arteta the kind of financial firepower needed to bolster the squad.

A new striker is perceived as a priority due to our profligacy, coupled with Gabriel Jesus’ decline since joining us for £45 million in 2022.

The former Man City man was never considered as a goalscorer but upon joining the club, he elevated the entire team and was on hot form before the Qatar World Cup.

A serious knee injury and subsequent surgery changed the 27-year-old and he’s never been the same since. Arteta has attempted to cover that role with the likes of Kai Havertz and Leandro Trossard, though neither are specialist strikers.

We’ve only spent a transfer fee on two bona fide forwards during Arteta’s tenure, and The Athletic’s David Ornstein reveals that a central striker isn’t the only position the club is focused on.

“Striker is a priority but not the only priority position,” he said on The Athletic podcast.

“They have long wanted a wide attacker/winger. Midfield needs to be addressed. They are going to need one or two goalkeepers with Neto going back and Setford potentially being loaned.”

Andrea Berta was in the stands watching over our 2-1 win against Fulham and, by the sounds of things, the Italian isn’t wasting any time as he implements our summer plans.

With the absence of a major international tournament this summer, Arteta will likely be expecting the bulk of our summer business to be done before we jet off on our pre-season tour.
