David Seaman Backs Petr Cech To Keep No.1 Slot Despite Bernd Leno Arrival

David Seaman isn’t quick to write off the Premier League legend…

Arsenal hero David Seaman has warned onlookers not to write off Petr Cech in the race to be the Gunners No.1 despite the arrival of £19.2million-man Bernd Leno.

Cech, by his high standards, had a season to forget last season as we slipped to sixth in the table – our lowest league finish and points total in 22 years.

It led to calls for him to sold and a new goalkeeper immediately became on of the first positions on fans’ wishlist ahead of the new campaign.

Following a summer of mass change at the club, the new recruitment team headed by Sven Mislintat and Unai Emery also felt that was an area that needed strengthening.

Forking out £19.2m for a goalkeeper is no mean feat, in fact, only two goalkeepers have been signed for a higher fee in Premier League history.

However, Seaman still believes Cech still has life in him and doesn’t want people to write him off just yet.

“I don’t think [Cech] will get written off straight away,” Seaman told reporters (via HaytersTV).

“You don’t disregard that experience from a guy that has won everything in the Premier League and he has won the Champions League as well.

“He has still got a lot to offer. What is interesting is that Petr has took the number one jersey. So that means that he wants to stay around for a little while,” Seaman added.

With pre-season fixtures against Atletico Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Sevilla on the horizon, it will be interesting to see the variation in which he uses his goalkeepers.
