Declan Rice Compares Arteta & Tuchel’s Coaching Methods

Declan Rice compares his new boss to Arteta…

Arsenal star Declan Rice stated that there are clear similarities between Thomas Tuchel and Mikel Arteta’s coaching methods, but noticed one key difference between the two managers.

Rice experienced his first game under Tuchel’s tutelage as England kicked off their World Cup qualifying campaign with a 2-0 win against Albania.

Arsenal teenager Myles Lewis-Skelly opened the scoring on the way to a man-of-the-match display at Wembley as he staked a claim for the Three Lions’ left-back position.

Rice, speaking ahead of England’s game against Latvia, explained that adapting to Tuchel’s style has been seamless given how aligned it is with Arteta’s tactics at club level.

Having said that, the 26-year-old did note a clear difference in what the pair want from their players on the pitch.

“It’s been unbelievable, it’s very similar to Mikel in a way in terms of how he wants to work,” Rice told reporters (via HaytersTV).

“We worked on a lot, in terms of how we’re gonna play out, and it was a lot of similar stuff in terms of club and me being in the right positions.

“Everything he’s (Tuchel) done has kinda come natural and not really as a shock, which has been nice.

“Also, he’s putting more emphasis on us to take ownership on the pitch which I really like. If we see something that he hasn’t spoken about you take ownership and you do it.

“I think that’s really good because you feel free on the pitch,” the former West Ham man added.

Those final words from Rice are the most poignant with Arteta a coach who prides himself on giving players as much information as possible before sending them out.

International football is a different ball game to club level and I suspect Tuchel’s methods have been tweaked due to training times being limited with national sides.
