Declan Rice says Arsenal will keep plugging away…
Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice is aware that the team have been written off externally in terms of our chances of winning the Premier League, but plans to keep plugging away.
Speaking after our relatively comfortable 2-0 win against a rejuvenated Man Utd under their new boss Ruben Amorim, Rice refused to be drawn into discussing the title race.
With Liverpool being held at St James’s Park as their fixture list finally tasks them with difficult away trips, the gap to the league leaders is now seven points.
However, with a full half of Premier League games yet to be reached and teams in the midst of the busy December schedule, the title picture will look different at the end of the month.
Rice claimed that the time to get the calculators out for a title race should be done in the spring with the full focus now on Sunday’s game at Fulham.
“When you have a blip in the league you get written off,” the midfield general told Amazon Prime.
“We stick together as a group and we knew the run of results were not good enough, now we’re starting to see a turn of that.
“People get carried away. You just need to be around it in February time. Liverpool have dropped points, they’re seven away so we will see what happens.”
With Fulham next up for Arteta’s side, it’s a chance to make up for points lost in last season’s tally and plug the silly points we lost earlier this season.
We dropped five points against Brighton and Bournemouth earlier this campaign—albeit with 10 men—in games where we scored maximum points last season.
It means we must rectify those somewhere and there’s no better opportunity than beating Marco Silva’s men home and away.
We’ll come up against a few familiar faces at Craven Cottage – though Reiss Nelson will not be eligible to continue his fine form against his parent club.
