Mikel Arteta makes Don Hutchison’s the cut…
Former Liverpool midfielder Don Hutchison placed Mikel Arteta among the top five managers in the world today as the Gunners boss’s reputation is enhanced.
Speaking during the international break where Arteta remains one of few managers who’s maintained an unbeaten run across all competitions so far this season,
Arteta has one major trophy to his name in a five-year managerial career, while the Spaniard continues his crusade of dethroning his mentor Pep Guardiola.
The former Gunners skipper has led us to back-to-back second-place finishes in the Premier League, with our effort last term taking the title race to the final day of the season.
In the daily race to enrage Arsenal fans online, Unai Emery has become a revered manager in English football since guiding Aston Villa to a Champions League place.
However, Hutchison doesn’t follow that narrative with the former Gunners boss not included in his list.
“Mikel Arteta will get there,” Hutchison said on ESPN UK.
“The lack of trophies for him – just one FA Cup in his recent history – but you can see the trajectory that he’s on.

“You could pick that top five and you could throw Unai Emery in there for sure, but I’m quite happy with that five.”
Emery can dine on taking teams with no expectations and cause them to punch above their weight, but the best managers eventually succeed at the top clubs.
The fact that, despite the managerial merry-go-round at Barcelona and Real Madrid, he’s yet to receive that call in his 20-year managerial career speaks volumes.
Two times Emery was handed a big club and was sacked on both occasions having left a bad taste.
For Arteta, lifting one of the two major trophies will silence all this.
