Alexis Sanchez reflects on FA Cup goal…
Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez reminisced on his FA Cup final goal against Aston Villa in 2015 ahead of this weekend’s final against Chelsea.
We’re looking to lift our record 13th FA Cup when we face the Blues, and Alexis certainly has good memories when appearing in big games at Wembley.
The 28-year-old bagged a brace in his first appearance at the stadium for Chile before his move to north London and returned 12 months later in an Arsenal shirt to bag another double in our semi-final win vs Reading.
We faced Aston Villa in the final, demolishing them 4-0 as Alexis netted one of the best goals ever seen in an FA Cup final at the new Wembley.
Alexis can still remember exactly how he felt has his thunderous shot crashed into the goal.
“I was delighted with my goal, really delighted,” he told Arsenal Player.
“The stadium, the fans, that match – it was like I was dreaming.”
It’s usually quite difficult for foreign players to grasp the importance of the FA Cup, but it seemed Alexis was quickly educated on the romance of the competition during his first season.
Alexis undoubtedly had higher ambitions upon his Arsenal rival, but adding yet another FA Cup winner’s medal to his vast trophy cabinet is nothing to be scoffed at.
