Nketiah wanted by Marseille…
Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah is the subject of serious interest from Ligue 1 side Marseille and the French team have made an opening offer for the 25-year-old, Fabrizio Romano reports.
Nketiah, who was heavily involved in the first part of last season, didn’t start a single Premier League game in 2024 and often spent the entire 90 minutes on the substitute bench.
It speaks to a habit of Mikel Arteta that we’ve become accustomed to during his tenure whereby he almost forgets certain players exist once they spend some time out of the team.
After signing a four-year deal in 2021 and being given ample opportunity to prove his credentials as an option for Arteta, it does feel like the right time to entertain offers for the England international.
With the club intent on recouping some funds after a few transfer windows of heavy spending, the likes of Nketiah, Emile Smith Rowe and Reiss Nelson could aid our profit and sustainability accounts.
Having just signed Mason Greenwood from Manchester United, it will be interesting too how far Marseille can go in terms of outlay. While Nketiah would represent a decent sale, we’re not desperate to offload him and the length of his contract will provide Edu with a bargaining tool.
