Arsenal’s managing director has admitted that he’s been surprised by Unai Emery’s enthusiasm and obsession with his role as the Spaniard continues to transform our fortunes, the Mirror reports.

Emery, after replacing the legendary boss Arsene Wenger, has transitioned seamlessly into the role and after losing our opening two Premier League games against Manchester City and Chelsea, we haven’t tasted defeats since.

Vinai wasn’t part of the committee which decided to appoint Emery as Wenger’s successor, but the commercial expert has been wowed by the Spaniard’s attention to detail.

It’s an opinion many have echoed about Emery, with even his former players admitting that they would be forced to watch video analysis to the point almost falling asleep.

And it’s that particular quality which stood out to Vinai.

“His energy is absolutely extraordinary,” he was quoted as saying.

“He said I think in his first press conference – which by the way I thought he very bravely did in English, which shows you the type of man he is – he said the one thing I am going to promise the fans is that I am going to work hard.

“Obviously everyone thought that was just a throwaway comment but he is always on it. It is extraordinary. His work ethic is absolutely extraordinary.

“When you are on that long flight home from eastern Europe after a Europa League game and everyone is trying to get a little bit of sleep, he is watching the game, analysing it. All times, all hours.”

In fairness to former chief executive Ivan Gazidis, he was adamant that we would see a manager who was intense and would demand that from the team.

His attention to detail is sensational considering that we’re yet to lead a league game at half-time – but we’re yet to lose since August.
