ESPN FC’s Craig Burley on Wenger…

ESPN analyst Craig Burley has called for Arsene Wenger to be removed from the position as Arsenal manager after our defeat to Watford left us nine points behind leaders Chelsea.

As the league leaders travelled to Liverpool in midweek, a game in which they dropped two points, we failed to capitalise by capitulating at home to a struggling Watford.

The first-half performance is something we’ve witnessed on too many occasions when going for a league title, and Burley believes that the time has come for Wenger to step aside.

“If we’re presuming once again that Arsenal are not gonna win the league, and if we’re presuming that Bayern Munich are going to put them out of the Champions League, the guy has got to go,” Burley argued.

“This club has to show some bottle. The money-men, the decision makers have to say: ‘are we frightened to have a change and freshen it up’.”

Burley seems to be the only active pundit calling for there to be more scrutiny on Arsene Wenger who is really running out of excuses as to why we can never sustain a proper title challenge.

Arsenal Football Club has no divine right to win the league, but we absolutely have to be challenging every year, something we’ve failed to do since 2008.
