Ex-Arsenal duo want revenge…
Former Arsenal academy products Craig Eastmond and Roarie Deacon are looking to exact revenge when the lineup for Sutton United this weekend.
We’ve been handed the romantic draw of heading to non-league Sutton in the fifth round of the FA Cup, the lowest ranked team left in the competition.
Over the past few seasons, while our pedigree in this competition has increased, we haven’t been given such a traditional tie in a long time.
During the days of the Invincibles, trips to non-league sides such as Oxford United and Farnborough were rather frequent in our long cup runs.
However, two familiar faces are looking to stage one of the biggest cup upsets in living memory.
“It’s not nice being released as a young kid having been at such a great club like Arsenal,” Deacon told ArsenalFanTV.
“You always want to play at such a big club and you always think that ‘I might get a chance in the first-team’.
“But for myself, it’s obviously… I’m trying to get a bit of revenge.”
Unlike Deacon, Eastmond did make a few first-team appearances in the Premier League and looked at one stage like becoming a long-term answer for Arsene Wenger.
The Englishman started against Bolton at the Reebok Stadium in 2009 and produced a mature display alongside Cesc Fabregas in a 2-0 win.
However, as ever in football, the pair’s path took a different turn.
