Francis Coquelin said Alexis Sanchez has always been popular in the dressing room…

Former Arsenal midfielder Francis Coquelin has rubbished claims that Alexis Sanchez was a nuisance in the dressing room with the 29-year-old set for a move to Man United.

Alexis will join Jose Mourinho’s side imminently with Henrikh Mkhitaryan coming the other way, and talk has shifted to a potential up-turn in atmosphere behind the scenes.

Reports were rife last season about alleged clashes behind the scenes with between Alexis and fellow players as well as staff, which culminated in his surprise relegation to the bench at Anfield.

After a summer of speculation in which Alexis almost departed for Manchester City, it seems he’ll finally get his wish.

For Coquelin, however, he doesn’t subscribe to the theory that Alexis was difficult behind the scenes and actually waxed lyrical on his abilities.

“Well, you know Alexis Sanchez has quality on the pitch,” Coquelin told BBC’s Football Focus programme.

“I hear a lot of things that the dressing room wasn’t getting on well with him but I don’t really know where that comes from.

“Sometimes that’s what people say when you’ve got a great player,” Coquelin added. “We talk about ego but he is someone who is always keen to work and I didn’t have any problem with him.”

One thing’s for sure, we’re all glad to see this saga nearing a conclusion.
