Ex-ref Roger Dilkes chimes in…

Former Premier League referee Roger Dilkes believes that Arsene Wenger should receive a “serious ban” to offer protection for the officials at grassroots level.

Dilkes claimed that the trickle down effect of Premier League football is a real concept and Wenger’s actions on the touchline against Burnley make referees at lower levels more vulnerable.

Wenger was charged with improper conduct by the FA on Monday and we all await the punishment he’ll receive for his sending off and the subsequent altercation with Anthony Taylor.

“It’s vulgar at the moment, grassroots’ abuse of officials,” Dilkes said on The Ref Show.

“You can’t have it on primetime television on a Sunday afternoon, and a senior manager in the Premiership getting away with it. He’s probably going to get a serious ban.”

It may have been expected that the refereeing community would come together and make a stand. but some of the reaction to Wenger’s incident has been excessive, to say the least.

The boss gave Anthony Taylor a little shove indicating him to focus on the game, yet many are reacting as if Wenger hit the official with a three-piece combo.
