Arsenal announce second signing in a matter of days as Matteo Guendouzi joins…
France U20 midfielder Matteo Guendouzi has joined Arsenal from Lorient for a reported fee of £8million as Unai Emery puts the finishing touches to his squad.
BBC’s David Ornstein hinted last week that a promising young player could join Lucas Torreira in our final foray into the transfer market, and it seems Guendouzi was that man.
The box-to-box midfielder started off his career at Paris Saint-Germain before leaving for Lorient, where he’s made 26 first-team appearances in all competitions since 2016.
Most of those came last campaign last season in the second tier of French football, and it will be interesting to see how prominently he fares under Emery next season.
For our new head coach, though, Guendouzi has arrived as a first-team addition: “We are delighted Matteo is joining us. He is a talented young player and a lot of clubs were interested in him.
“He has big potential and gained good first-team experience last season with Lorient. He wants to learn and improve and will be an important part of our first-team squad.”
Guendouzi has decided to take the No.29 shirt, a jersey won in the past two seasons by Granit Xhaka. That Swiss star will wear his favoured No.34 shirt next season.
