Jesus credits Arsenal’s attacking coach ‘Tekkers Guru’…
Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus name-checked Gunners coach Hussein Isa, previously known as Tekkers Guru, for helping him with his finishing after netting his first hat-trick for the club.
Jesus bagged a hat-trick to single-handedly drag us to the last four of the Carabao Cup as he ended his personal drought in front of goal.
The 27-year-old last scored for us right at the beginning of the calendar year in a 2-1 win at Nottingham Forest, highlighting how low his confidence has been.
You could almost see the pressure lifted off the Arsenal No.9’s shoulders after he chipped home his first, equalising for us following Jean-Philippe Mateta handing the visitors the lead.
The conviction in the strikes for the second and third goals was clear to see and something that’s been missing from Jesus’s game over the past 18 months.
Jesus credits the work done on the training pitch with Isa, with the focus on calming him down when he’s through on goal.
“Against Monaco I missed two clear chances, but they were more difficult than today,” Jesus explained to Arsenal Media.
“Obviously, I was disappointed that I didn’t score in that game.
“At the end, I just have to keep my mind clear and strong, work like I work with [coach Hussein] Isa every day and he told me: “Look Gabby, you’re quality, you need to be calm and then you’ll score.”
“That’s what I did today and I’m happy to come back to score goals, because I have the number nine and the pressure will always be there to score goals. That’s it, that’s the challenge.”
The focus will now be on if Jesus can use this as a catalyst to finally regain the form he showed during his first few months as an Arsenal player.
If a player cannot feel revitalised after netting a hat-trick against a Premier League side, you’d wonder if they may be a lost cause.
One suspects that Mikel Arteta will aim to take advantage of Jesus’s return to goalscoring form and hand him another start against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday.
