Gabriel Martinelli puts Saka among the elites…

Gabriel Martinelli believes teammate Bukayo Saka is one of the best players in the world at the moment after the 23-year-old produced a stunning display against Southampton.

Saka and Martinelli combined for the all-important winning goal against Southampton as we came from behind to win 3-1 in our bid to keep up with the pace in the title race.

The England star also added a goal to his two assists in the game to take his tally of goal contributions in the Premier League to nine in seven games.

The aforementioned duo were central to our title challenge two seasons ago and while Martinelli had a tough campaign last term, he’s seemingly found his efficient stride in the last three Premier League games.

However, despite his own form, Martinelli was full of praise for his teammate and claimed Saka is now among the world’s best.

“We know when someone opens the ball up, we know the areas that we need to go,” the Brazilian told Arsenal Media.

“It was an unbelievable ball from B, and I was there – a really good moment for me and a nice goal. I just tried to put it down, and I’m really happy with the goal.

“He’s a really nice guy as well so we’re really happy to have him here as one of the captains. He’s unbelievable, one of the best players in the world right now.”

While Saka’s consistency at his age is quite remarkable and demands respect, you get the sense that he can still go to another level when watching him weekly.

That level doesn’t have much to do with his skill set, but more so with his mentality. Saka often finds himself in dangerous situations and will look to find players in a better position than him.

Typically, that is the ‘right’ thing to do, but when the player in a better position is Gabriel Jesus, I’d prefer Saka to take the difficult route and attempt to find the net himself.

As Saka departs for England duty, we can only hope that our players return in good health – especially after what we suffered during the last international break.
