Neville believes the champions are feeling the heat…
Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville is anticipating another tight title race between Arsenal and Manchester City after the champions dropped points at Newcastle United.
In their first Premier League fixture since Rodri’s season-ending knee injury was confirmed, Pep Guardiola’s men produced a lethargic display at St James’s Park.
The Citizens needed a solo goal from defender Josko Gvardiol to break down the hosts, but they failed to create another serious chance of note.
A defensive calamity saw Anthony Gordon brought down in the box, and the England man stepped up to level the game which saw Man City held to a draw in consecutive league fixtures.
We had an eventful afternoon too at the Emirates Stadium after a comfortable 2-0 lead at half-time was quickly wiped out by two actions by Leicester City.
Arteta’s men rallied to restore the lead in injury time and even went further to make it 4-2 – giving the scoreline a better reflection of the game we witnessed.
“Yeah, it’s going to be good,” Neville said about the potential of another Man City vs Arsenal title race on The Gary Neville Podcast.
“I think it was good last year and I think it’s going to be good this year. I think City know that there’s someone creeping up on their shoulder.
“There’s no doubt that Arsenal are on their shoulder and there’s no doubt that Pep Guardiola is smelling and feeling the challenge. He wants this challenge, he loves to overcome this type of challenge – they’re not gonna give in, City.”
Arteta has done really well to navigate the toughest start to the season for any side in the league having had to go away to three of last season’s top five teams.
We’ve remained unbeaten and only dropped points when down to 10 men in games we were leading with a level playing field.
With a more favourable fixture list facing us in the coming weeks, hopefully, the boys can gain momentum in what will be the busiest part of the season.
