Ex-Arsenal Man: Edu Will Be Missed, His Exit “Was A Big Surprise”

Gilberto speaks on Edu’s exit…
Former Arsenal midfielder Gilberto believes Edu will be missed following his resignation and admitted that his compatriot’s exit caught him by surprise, Sky Sports News reports.
Edu resigned from his post as sporting director earlier this month and while he’s yet to announce his next move, reports suggest he’ll lead a multi-club model owned by Evangelos Marinakis.
Arsenal have now begun a recruitment process with a view to replacing the Brazilian, while his former assistant Jason Ayto oversees the role on an interim basis.
As the January transfer window approaches, Edu’s former teammate Gilberto Silva believes the club will miss his expertise in the role and spoke about his surprise at the former Invincible’s departure.
“Edu is a very cool guy, I think it was a tough decision for him to leave the club,” Gilberto said.
“I wish him the best of luck, he has done a great job for the club, and I think the club will miss him. He made a great partnership with Mikel…
“Honestly, it was a big surprise to me [that he left Arsenal], but sometimes it happens.”
While Edu enjoyed a sensational working relationship with Mikel Arteta, there is a thinking that he may be getting too much praise for Arsenal’s resurgence.
In case some forgot, Edu was part of the previous regime that brought in the likes of David Luiz and Nicolas Pepe – while getting into bed with dodgy agents.
When the Kroenke family ordered executive Tim Lewis to conduct an audit of the club’s finances – it led to a mass exodus at club level including Raul Sanllehi and Huss Fahmy – somehow Edu kept his job.
One suspects that was more to do with his relationship with Arteta as opposed to his importance.
