“It’s Got To Stop” – Paul Merson Rants About Arsene Wenger’s Team Selection

Paul Merson can’t understand’s Wenger’s thinking process…
Paul Merson went on a serious rant about Arsene Wenger’s odd team selection at the start of the new season with many players playing out of position.
Wenger switched to a back three at the back-end of last season which caused a few players to switch roles, with the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Nacho Monreal familiarising themselves with new positions.
Monreal played on the left of a back three, while the Ox has played in a wing-back role – be it on the right or the left.
While the balance of the side looked right during that period, Wenger has become rather excessive in shifting players around, and now we have the likes of Hector Bellerin and Sead Kolasinac also playing in unfamiliar positions.
Merson seems to have had enough and after the defeat to Stoke City, it seems the pressure is back on Arsene Wenger.
“It’s been like that for the last 10 years, you know that, I know that, so how does [Wenger] not know that? Merson quizzed his colleagues.
“How are you ever going to win the Premier League with Nacho Monreal playing in a back three? Please tell me?
“Look at the goal against Stoke, I could see what was going to happen. This is Arsenal Football Club, you can’t be playing Bellerin, a right back playing left back, and Monreal playing in a three. What is it? It has to stop! It can’t keep going on like this.”
After yet another disappointing window, our trip to Liverpool quickly becomes a crucial clash and failure to produce a serious display at Anfield is beyond contemplation.
