Graeme Souness launches bitter rant…

Former Newcastle United boss Graeme Souness launched a bizarre rant about Arsene Wenger while appearing on a podcast, questioning the Frenchman’s credentials as a ‘football man’.

Souness, sitting alongside co-hosts Simon Jordan and Troy Deeney, was asked if he felt Wenger was a ‘football man’ and the Scotsman went on a tangent.

The former Liverpool midfielder claimed Wenger was “lucky” to inherit the defensive unit of Steve Bould, Tony Adams, Nigel Winterburn and Lee Dixon. He then doubled down and claimed the former Gunners’ boss was also fortunate to have an insight into the French football market during a golden era.

After being challenged by failed football owner Jordan and Deeney – who lasted a few months as Forest Green boss – Souness eventually revealed his real issue.

“No, not particularly,” the 71-year-old said on the Three Up Front podcast when asked if Wenger was a football man.

“I’ve been on the bench listening to what he’s telling his players to do. I’ve been working for Sky in games when he’s made strange decisions.

“My take on him is that he got very, very lucky at a time when French football produced its greatest-ever group of players. He inherited the best back-five in world football and a 22-year-old Bergkamp.”

Firstly, Bergkamp was 27 when Wenger joined the club. When pushed on his harsh assessment of Wenger, Jordan claimed Souness didn’t like him because they were “culturally different.”

“I’ve never spoken to him about football,” Souness cried.

“He’s never come to my office after the game – the only manager that never did. I’d go to his office after a game and he’d never be there to talk football,” he added.

You only have to let a fool ramble on before he reveals his real thoughts. He’s upset with Wenger for not being part of his ‘old boys club’.

The Frenchman was a very good judge of character and probably didn’t want to associate with a xenophobic clown who was Fergie’s little lapdog.
