Arsenal skipper Granit Xhaka has revealed that he’s been carrying an achilles injury over the past few weeks as criticism of the 26-year-old intensifies, Goal reports.

Xhaka is still catching heat for his ill-timed challenge against Spurs which gave the visitors a chance to go 2-0 up in the north London derby.

While we saved the game to clinch a point, fans have seemingly reached a breaking point when it comes to accepting Xhaka’s moments of stupidy which cost us points.

If Xhaka didn’t randomly drag Brighton’s Solly March to the ground towards the back-end of last season to give away another spot-kick, we could’ve been playing Champions League football this season.

It’s led to the lack patience we’re witnessing when it comes to the Swiss star’s mishaps this season, though he may have a reason for his poor form this term.

“I’ve been suffering from Achilles tendon pain for a few weeks now. I felt it during the game,” Xhaka was quoted as saying.

“It hurts now, but it should be okay otherwise.”

Aside from how this niggle may affect his form, it may be a cause for concern for Unai Emery who’s been consistent in his selection of Xhaka this season.

A continuous achilles problem is what saw Laurent Koscielny decline quickly in the latter years of his Arsenal career and hopefully, Xhaka can cure this issue with a period on the sidelines.
