Granit Xhaka says belief is high among players that they can return to the Champions League…

Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka stated that belief is high among the players that they can bring the club back into the Champions League for the first time since 2016 after the win against West Ham, he told Stadium Astro.

The impressive victory against The Hammers on Wednesday night saw us leapfrog them and enter the Champions League spots for the first time in 14 months, leaving many wondering if we could maintain that position.

Arsenal were not thought of as serious top-four contenders at the start of the season by many observers following back-to-back eighth-placed finishes.

However, following a strong finish in the second half of last season and our current position in the league, Xhaka maintains belief is high among the squad with regards to their top-four aspirations.

“Of course, if not then we don’t need to go on the pitch,” the Swiss international said when asked if the team believes they can finish in the top-four.

“We are, at the moment, very strong, very solid. We are not conceding a lot of goals and we believe in ourselves.

“We know we have to improve and the important thing is to do that game by game.

“We won today but it’s so far and we have a long season in front of us, and the next step is Leeds United.”

Xhaka’s return has become a welcome addition to the squad, even if he’s yet to return to his best after being thrown straight back into the side from a big knee injury.

Our chances of qualifying for the Champions League will likely be centred on how well we manage the next few weeks as Thomas Partey heads to Cameroon for the AFCON.

Xhaka’s importance will become even greater.
