Famous Arsenal fan and Italian jockey Frankie Dettori revealed that he was very much in the ‘Wenger Out’ camp last season, though he’s now fully behind the manager ahead of the new season.
The debate surrounding the manager’s future reached an all-time high last campaign, with the boss out of contract in the summer and our form plummeting.
However, despite finishing outside the top four for the first time, Wenger delivered a record 13th FA Cup and that seemed enough for the board and himself to agree on a new contract.
Wenger extended his contract by another two years, a decision which will now surely only increase the pressure on him, but Dettori expects him to pull through.
“Listen, Arsene Wenger has done fantastic for the team,” he told Sporting Life.
“He’s been there a long time, I feel that a change would be better for the team, that’s only my opinion – to get fresh ideas.
“But I’m a big pro-Wenger, and let’s hope he can get it right this time.”
It’s a fair statement from Dettori and he shares the feeling with many of the fans, most of whom are on the brink with Wenger and have been forced to give him another chance with this new deal.
Speaking about our Premier League chances, the Italian stated we’ll be challenging “if we can keep our best players.”
